Citizen soldier
Listening to this song, and watching the video was a powerful experience. It was obviously gloriying war, and leaving out the gruesome, unforgetable, horrible things that occur. But, besides that, its a necessary advertisement. In class all people were saying how it is a bad video because it doesnt show the reality of war, but its supposed to promote the national guard, obviously it doesnt show what could happen to you. I just stated that its a necessary advertisement, and by that i mean Americans need a posotive visual of war. Becuase of Iraq, our armed forces need all the support they can get, a video like this is definietly a start.

I agree with you that the situation in Iraq is dire and we need more troops. But what I disagree with is that a video like this is a start. I can't imagine anyone watching this long, and comical at times video and running out and joining the national guard. I believe this the same way a billboard doesn't help a product sell if it has already been on the market for a while. If people know about, and they aren't buying it, there's no use. This video seemed to me like a waste of money and time.
i like the point you raise about how the national guard obiously won't show languished soldiers because they want to show the power that being in the national guard can give to a person. i noticed that the movie was pretty dark and it could be to show that by joining the national guard you could figuratively bring light to these dark places and be a saviour...but that's just the selling point they're trying to put out there.
